Noorderhaven
Noorderhaven, Groningen.
I’ve been wanting to spend time shooting the beauty of the city of Groningen for quit some time.
Today three of us spend a couple of hours revisiting known spots but also discovering new ones. New sides of this city we didn’t know about yet even after so many years of visiting it.
And still there’s a lot more left to see, discover and shoot.
So we’re hoping to leave some more footsteps behind very soon.

Cuteness
One of the threats that keeps repeating itself at Dutch Wadden Sea every year
is nursing seals being disrupted by human tourism and fishing activities.
Seals panic, flee and get carried away from their pups by strong tidal currents.
Without the rescue work done by Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre Lenie ‘t Hart
– Zeehondencreche Lenie ‘t Hart in Dutch –
hundreds of these motherless pups would have certainly die.
It’s really touching to see one of those cute faces look at you and realise that fact.
This centre depends solely from public donations.

Waiting
Railway station of Maastricht, the most southern city of The Netherlands.
In December 2006 we spend a few days at this city.
We travelled by car but this old (1913)
railway station building was very near to our
hotel and had a very distinctive type of architecture.
It’s really interesting to walk trough.
A very own old days sphere and offering
some nice views to photograph.

Ancient
Some time ago I was looking at some old images
from the end of the nineteenth century.
Those old images are often black & white but
some are also in very strong sepia tones.
That’s what came to mind when I saw this image back.
So I gave it a try to achieve that old look.
I did leave some of the color in it.
This image is taken at Smilde.
A little town nearby Assen.

Deventer
Old building in the city center of Deventer.
Found the inscription on top saying it’s been renovated in 1895 interesting.
By clicking on the images bellow you can see two other shots of this building.

Alley
Shot this alley in Deventer while visiting the Boekenmarkt.
Deventer is a very beautiful town. Lots of interesting characteristic old buildings.
I recommend taking along enough memory card capacity if you ever visit. : -)
Experimented with software on this one.
The sky is from a second picture of this alley with the right exposure
to show up the sky correctly and then adjusted to fit the processing on the original.

Deventer Boekenmarkt
Last Sunday we visited the Deventer Boekenmarkt (Book fair) for the second time.
With almost 900 book stands (six kilometers) it has developed into
the largest book fair from Europe since it’s start in 1989.
An opportunity to complete book or comic collections,
search for antique books or just satisfy your reading appetite.
But besides that Deventer itself is worth the visit.
It’s historical inner city, monumental town squares and
medieval buildings confirms you are at one of
the five oldest cities of The Netherlands.
On this image the Boekenmarkt at
the central town square De Brink.
Left in the background monumental De Waag were
Deventers Historical Museum now resides.
