La M
Portrait of Madelon.
I like her self confident straight into the camera look.
She is very busy recovering from surgery so she wanted to go for a little walk. Catch some fresh air and some photographic distraction.
She also has picked up blogging again so you can see and read about her at Fahad & Co
I can guarantee you she also loves comments. : )
Craftsmanship
Another one from the Vakantiebeurs.
I think this gentlemen, whom I very much thank for so kindly posing, was from Kenia.
Don’t you think the combination, human creativity and wood, is such a very nice one?
During this Vakantiebeurs, vacation fair, I exchanged my photoblogs address
to some of the portrayed persons so they could come and see the image.
I think I now have posted everyones image.
In case I’m forgetting anyone please feel free to point that lack to me.
To the ones who actually came to take a look:
Thank you so very much!!!
I hope you liked the resulting image.
This image has also been posted on my Flickr account
as well as a second image of this gentlemen.

Train Knitting
This lovely lady was so very kind to grant me permission to portray her
while knitting in the train on the way to Vakantiebeurs 2009, Jaarbeurs Utrecht.
Thank you so much, madam!
Heel erg bedankt, mevrouw!

Eyelashes
Taken at the Zoom Experience 2008 event, Jaarbeurs Utrecht.
This young lady was on stilts.
Thought her make-up was very photogenic. Catchy. Very well done.
And I also just love the way she’s looking into my lens.
Many thanks to her!

Jong geleerd, oud gedaan …
According to my dictionary the translation for the Dutch saying I’m using as title is:
"Who learns young, forgets not when he is old."
That title is my husbands brainwave.
He was watching me uploading this image, saying he still had a lot to learn about
all of this photo blogging stuff but before I ended thinking
"What title shall I give this image" he came up with this one
making me look up to him in amazement.
Just so you know, he’s good at this type of split second sharpness.
Yes, if he ever starts posting I’ll let you know.
But for now, "Thank you very much for the title, Honey!"
This is a simultaneous chess play in a department store in Assen.
I’ve learnt it was part of the programme for the Open Drents Youth Championship.
The young man was playing against +- seven players.
Who ever wanted could sit down and test his or hers chess play against his.
One of these players told me he is thirteen years old and quit a talent.
My special thanks goes to the gentlemen you are looking at for giving me permission to
post this image I made of him during his play against this young talent.
"I thank you very much mister Tinus S. "

Flamenca

Wich other dance would caracterize Spain better then Flamenco?
This Spanish corner looked exactly the same as last years. Some other dancers, other dresses, but the same.
Met Pensioen / With retirement
Pasgetrouwd stelletje wasjes;
Babywasjes;
Verhuiswasjes;
Kleuterwasjes;
Huisje, boompje, geen beestje, wasjes;
Basisschoolwasjes;
Terug van vakantie wasjes;
Tienerwasjes;
Is per 28 december 2006,
With retirement
Just married washes;
Baby washes;
Move washes;
Toddler washes;
House, garden, no pet, washes;
Primary school washes;
Back from vacation washes;
Teenage washes;
Just the two of us again washes.
After a generation (twenty three years) of washing services our washing machine has been replaced
for one with kind of fairground functions.
Had this departure been illustrated in a comic, this machine would’ve had this
![]()
smiley on it’s washing machine face because the very nice young men who took it,
immediately assumed a photogenic pose as soon as he heard from my Hubby
that the pictures where meant for a blog.
Thank You very nice young men!
Up to the next twenty years of ‘kleine wasjes, grote wasjes’* (small washes, big washes).
* ‘Kleine wasjes, grote wasjes’ was a hit in 1985 by the Surinam-Dutch party/salsa band Trafassi.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find a sample of this hit on the Net so you could hear it.
Free hugs
I always set up our video recorder to record longer then the items I want to see.
This time it unintentionally recorded a Dutch news broadcast about a version, of the above Amsterdam Dutch version of the world-wide Free hugs campaign, in the northern city of Groningen.
Not only because the music of this video is made by the band Henkus from this city but also because Dutch people are supposed to be very down to earth/sober minded/common sense (not sure wich one translates the Dutch word ‘Nuchter” best) and northerners even more!
It seems that this campaign has been going one for quit some time now since Juan Mann started it in Australia.
So maybe you’ve already learn of it. For me it ‘s new.
And …eh … Personally I don’t think I would hug a stranger in a situation like this.
That’s right, I would walk straight by.
But seeing it did put a big smile on my face.

You’ll have to wait a moment but this is the link to the news broadcast I saw: RTL4
(try the 225kbit option on the left upper side of the video screen)
The band Henkus.
They sound pretty good!
#

Eva Yerbabuena
Eva Yerbabuena is Flamenco!

Last Saturday we saw Eva Yerbabuena’s dance again.
She is now performing here in Holland with her first autobiographic choreography ‘Eva‘.
If you love Flamenco dance and ever get the chance to see her, you must grab that chance.
She is Flamenco!
As soon as she starts moving you know your looking at a first class dancer.
She hijacks your eyes and takes them along in her gracious movements.
And when she starts her vigorous zapateado (footwork)… astonishment is your part.
She shows you what Duende* is!
The picture above was taken at the end of Eva Yerbabuena’s Ballet Flamenco show ‘A Cuatro Voces’ at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid.
Of course it wasn’t permitted to take pictures of the performance itself.
And I didn’t.
But I really, really, wanted to keep a remembrance of such a remarkable acquaintance …
* See a definition of Duende at Wikipedia: The second meaning and Federico GarcÃa Lorca’s quotation.
