Cuteness
One of the threats that keeps repeating itself at Dutch Wadden Sea every year
is nursing seals being disrupted by human tourism and fishing activities.
Seals panic, flee and get carried away from their pups by strong tidal currents.
Without the rescue work done by Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre Lenie ‘t Hart
– Zeehondencreche Lenie ‘t Hart in Dutch –
hundreds of these motherless pups would have certainly die.
It’s really touching to see one of those cute faces look at you and realise that fact.
This centre depends solely from public donations.

Pauw in het Asserbos, Assen.
Wat ik leuk vind aan deze foto? Zijn veren natuurlijk. Vooral dat prachtige blauw!
Ook wel dat hij zo keurig voor mij poseerde … ha, ha, ha… zou ik willen!
Eigenlijk hield hij mij gewoon goed in de gaten met de houding van iemand die zegt:
“Mevrouw! Ziet u niet dat u mij in de weg staat?!”

I found the two versions bellow on the Internet but
I still can’t remember if this was indeed the Madeirean version.

Deze openingszin is het enige dat ik mij kan herinneren van
een Portugese kinderliedje dat ik als kind geleerd heb op Madeira.
Ik heb twee versies gevonden op het internet en hierboven overgeschreven
maar helaas kan ik mij nog steeds niet herinneren welke de Madeirense versie was.
Mocht jij het wel weten … graag! ; -)

een vriendinnetje heeft om hem gezelschap te houden.

Visiting a zoo is always nice … visiting a zoo with a camera in your hand is such a joy! : D
We had a great day and the part I loved the most is the humour animals reflect!

This gentlemen explained to us that
although wild bees don’t produce honey,
they are very important for the fertilisation of many plants and
therefore also for us.
As modern society and way of living is taking it’s toll on them,
he also had examples on how to create more nesting places for them.

Deze meneer legde ons uit dat hoewel wilde bijen geen honing produceren,
zij wel een zeer belangrijke rol spelen bij de bevruchting van
verschillende planten en daardoor ook voor ons.
Aangezien onze huidige maatschappij en manier van leven
zijn tol eist onder deze bijen liet hij zien hoe je
meer nestplaatsen voor ze kon creëren.

‘Open door day’ is my translation of ‘Open dag’ in Dutch, meaning you can visit,
see and learn more of what normaly stays behind doors for you from a business or company.
We normaly just buy honey at Het Ielgat.
But on this day we learned they also sell every kind of bee-keeper’s materials and
that there was a little museum behind the big doors.

Hier kopen wij vaak honing.
Op deze dag kregen wij ook allerlei, voor ons onbekende, benodigdheden voor imkers te zien en
ontdekten wij dat achter de grote schuurdeuren een klein museum was gehuisvest.
