Eva Yerbabuena is Flamenco!
Vanaf haar allereerste beweging weet je dat je te maken hebt met een danseres van klasse.
Ze gijzelt je ogen en voert ze mee in haar gratieuze bewegingen.
Ze laat je zien wat Duende* is!

We zagen haar voor het eerst afgelopen september in Madrid met haar choreografie ‘A Cuatro Voces’ .
Na afloop van die voorstelling heb ik bovenstaande foto gemaakt.
In het Teatro de la Zarzuela.
Natuurlijk mocht je ook daar geen foto’s maken tijdens de voorstelling.
Die heb ik dan ook niet gemaakt.
Maar dit moment aan het einde van de voorstelling heb ik toch vastgelegd.
Een herrinering aan een bijzondere kennismaking.

Afgelopen zaterdag hebben wij weer van haar danskunst mogen genieten.
Voor het eerst heeft ze haar dansgezelschap mee naar Nederland genomen om haar eertse autobiografische voorstelling ‘Eva’ hier ten tonele te brengen.
Dankzij haar geweldige lichaamsbeheersing laat ze de bewegingen heel natuurlijk lijken.
Ze laat je zien wat je flamenco lerares je probeerde te leren.
En als ze aan haar krachtige zapateado (voetenwerk) begint … dan rest er alleen verwondering.

Last Saturday we saw Eva Yerbabuena’s dance again.
She is now performing here in Holland with her first autobiographic choreography ‘Eva‘.

If you love Flamenco dance and ever get the chance to see her, you must grab that chance.
She is Flamenco!
As soon as she starts moving you know your looking at a first class dancer.
She hijacks your eyes and takes them along in her gracious movements.
And when she starts her vigorous zapateado (footwork)… astonishment is your part.
She shows you what Duende* is!

The picture above was taken at the end of Eva Yerbabuena’s Ballet Flamenco show ‘A Cuatro Voces’ at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid.
Of course it wasn’t permitted to take pictures of the performance itself.
And I didn’t.
But I really, really, wanted to keep a remembrance of such a remarkable acquaintance …
